Nikon has released the new Z30 mirrorless camera. It is a compact camera that aims to provide a new option for vloggers and content creators. It packs a new 20-megapixel APS-C sensor with new features.
According to Nikon, the new Nikon Z30 could help content creators and vloggers with their output as this camera can take up 4K footages with crisp audio and excellent background separation.
However, one noticeable feature of this camera is the lack of an electronic viewfinder (EVF) - a feature that a lot of photographers and videographers still use today. There is a fully articulating 3-inch screen though for shooting selfies.
Moreover, the built-in external mic input is an excellent choice considering their target market. It is compatible with the majority of shotgun mics and lavaliers such as the Rode Video Mic Go.
Another thing, there is a tiny LED that lights up to show whether it is recording or not. Clearly, this is a nod to its target audience.
Nikon Z30: For Content Creators
The Nikon Z30 is capable of shooting 4K UHD videos and full HD videos. The good thing though is has a 125 minute video limit for 1080p footages which is a lot for vloggers and creators. Full HD videos can also go up to 120p.
The built-in stereo microphone with adjustable sensitivity is a nice touch too. However, the built-in audio jack is a better feature for dedicated creators. The
According to Jay Vannater, Executive Vice President at Nikon, the company wants to support creators by taking the guesswork out of how to get the best production value.
"(The Nikon Z30) helps them to take their creativity further and grow their communities," Vannater added.
Vannater mentioned that the Z30 is an interchangeable lens camera that is a "big leap in a creator's personal evolution".
With that mindset, Nikon included other functions such as Picture Control Auto. This will adjust the video settings depending on the situation.
There are 20 scenes or "creative picture controls" to choose from which is more than enough for the regular user. This streamlines the production process as it makes video editing easier.
Nikon Z30 Specifications
The Nikon Z30 has a 20-megapixel APS-C DX-mount sensor. It also features "better" low light capabilities. This camera also includes human and animaleye-AF tracking which is again, a possible nod to lifestyle content creators.
The camera can take photos with up to 1/4000s second with a burst speed of 11fps. Compensating in low light is not a problem too as this camera can go up from ISO 100 - 51,200. It is also expandable to ISO 204,800.
It has a single SDXC or SDHC card slot located at the bottom near the battery compartment. It would have been better though if it was located on the side for ease of access.
There are multiple connectivity options available like Wi-Fi for transfers on the go. It also has a USB-C port for wired transfers or tethering.
