Sony has announced that "a new camera is coming" this October 21. The teaser was posted on Sony's social media accounts with the Sony Alpha logo hinting to a new camera.
The teaser was made without any clarification on what model is coming. But reports and leaks have suggested that the upcoming camera will be the Sony A7 IV.
It has been three years since the release of the Sony A7 III. By following Sony's camera cycle, there is a high chance that the A7 IV is coming. The leaks also confirm the model.
YouTube tags confirm Sony A7 IV specs
Besides social media posts, Sony posted the YouTube Premiere with multiple tags included. And, it is still unsure if Sony did this purposely, but the tags revealed the majority of the specs.
According to the YouTube Tags, which have been removed, the upcoming camera is the "ILCE-7M4". By Sony's naming scheme, it is the model number of the camera. The Sony A7 III has the ILCE-7M3 model number.
Moreover, other tags include "A7M4, Alpha 7, Sony A7 IV, Sony Alpha", and a whole lot more.
Specs-wise, the tags mention "4K, Eye AF, Animal Eye AF, Eye AF Movies". This feature was first revealed in the Sony A1. If true, then this is a game changer for those who are trying to enter the Sony full frame market for the first time.
"10 fps, 33MP, Bionz XR, 10-bit 4:2:2 HLG, All-I XAVC S-I, S-Cinetone, S-log3, S&Q dial," are also included in the video tags.
The tags mentioned are the major specs of the camera. It will possibly have a 33-megapixel Bionz XR sensor that can shoot up to 10 fps burst mode. However, there is no certainty yet on whether the burst mode could shoot faster with the electronic shutter.
Who is the Sony A7 IV for?
Based on the leaked specs, the Sony A7 IV is a hybrid full-frame camera set to compete with the Canon R6, or even better.
The specs are also ideal for budding photographer and videographers who wants to venture into the Sony full frame system.
Without the final specs, it is still hard to determine the camera's intended market.
But the wait is almost over. The Sony A7 IV price and availability will be known soon.
