Far exceeds all my personal expectations. Upgrades were overdue and was so close to purchasing the equivalent with the RRS legs however was convinced in this direction. The design and build quality is exceptional and look forward to putting some miles on these, no regrets. And US made!
This is a great tripod, as it is solid and strong. I have not yet used it extensively, but in my test recording birds in flight, I felt confident that I would not experience vibrations as I moved my setup in various directions.
While I believe that the leg locks work well to secure the leg segments in place, I wish they were a bit easier to grip. For me, they would be better if they were slightly larger (in length and circumference) and had a surface that is less slippery, such as rubber instead of plastic.
I am greatly looking forward to adding the center column TR42C when it again becomes available. I prefer tripods with center columns as they allow for much more rapid height adjustment in the field.
This tripod has exceeded my expectations and well built! So much better than any tripod I have ever used. Light and built like a tank!
Having used a variety of premium tripods from Gitzo and RRS, I rank the PMG tripods the finest in quality and usability.
I've been shooting a Nikon D750 with the TR424 58" tripod base and BH50 pmg head. The carbon pattern is cool. Stable as a rock even in decent wind. Fairly light to pack over trails. When i put the head on the base, i thought hmmm, i could have got the smaller version since this head looks a little underwhelming with the wide topped sticks. But i like it for being over built. Feels secure holding 300mm with 1.4 tele being my longest lens, so far. After shooting in sand, i took all the legs apart for cleaning with no issues. What's missing? I'd like to see not only made in USA, but also "Made In Chicago" on pmg products like so much of my stuff as a boy growing up in Gary. Customer service has been prompt and helpful. Dave
